The Speedmaster was first introduced in 1957 and no one probably anticipated the historical icon the watch has become today. During the early 1960s NASA was searching for a suitable watch to be worn by their astronauts during space missions. In 1969 the Speedmaster took a leap forward with mankind when Buzz Aldrin wore the watch on the surface of the moon, giving the Speedmaster Professional the iconic name of the "Moonwatch". This is a very special transitional model Speedmaster, manufactured in 1968 with the original step dial but it is case with the caliber 661 movement.
